Club History The St Louis Imperial Dance Club was started in 1973. It's
mission is to keep swing dancing alive as it is danced in St Louis. The originators started as a group of dancers that would
have parties in apartment complexes community centers. They Started at the San Miguel Apt. in St Charles. They moved to Spanish
Trace and then to the Club Imperial where they originally got there name. They then found a place of their own in the basement
of the Martin Building in Breckenridge Hills. They stayed there for many years building a following that is still expanding
today. The dancers that came from Illinios decided to start their own club in Collinsville and they were helped with start-up
by the SLIDC Board. South Side split off next. Then Jefferson County Started a club. St Charles soon followed. West County
split from a group called Gateway Dance Club that also split from SLIDC. The St Louis Imperial Dance Club holds title as the
Original Imperial Dance ClubWe are proud of our heritage as we are proud of our sister clubs and the good they have done for
the community. What started as one club with a few members grew to seven clubs in the St Louis area with more than 3500 members
and many more that still come to dances and go to clubs that have no affiliation. The Rebels Dance Club and the Lake
Ozarks Dance Club were the last that joined a federation of six clubs as the seventh and Eighth Clubs to further
our mission to spread swing dancing in its expandable form to whomever wants to learn
