Marie Jamison, Instructor & Dance Director for Lessons
I
am very excited to announce the coming three months of lessons at the Sports Café. We will start
it off in April with a complete guide to “Swivels”. Swivels have always been an intricate part
of the St. Louis Imperial Style Swing. We are going to show many different ways to incorporate them into
your swing dancing. For the second class we will be showing Advanced Swing Patterns from a variety of Swing
Dance styles.
In May we are going to repeat a “Swing Cha-Cha”
class for those who did not have an opportunity to take it last time it was offered, or would like to review.
We will also be adding a few new patterns as well. For our second class we are going to fill a request
by many of our students, for a “Night Club Two Step” class. Which is just a prettier way of
slow dancing. We will cover just the basic patterns which are used, and there is no prerequisite required.
In
June our first class will be for the ever requested “Basic St. Louis Shag”. It is also indigenous
to St. Louis Imperial Dancing, and it’s lots of fun, while also being very aerobic. There is also
no prerequisite required for this class. Our second class will be “Basic Carolina Shag”, not
to be confused with St. Louis Shag. It is very popular on the East Coast southern states, and incorporates
lots of beautiful footwork patterns, and performed to a slow tempo of music. We are only beginning you
out with some simple basics, anyone can do, but it will be a plus to your dancing repertoire.
I
hope you all like what I have planned for you, it’s a nice variety of lessons, and as always I am honored to be your
Instructor for our club. I must thank Larry Eglan, Dianne Curly, Jan Altman, and my wonderful partner,
Debra Brouk, who also makes everything look very effortless. We hope you will enjoy our lessons, and of
course don’t forget that my Monday Night Lessons, will always cover Basics to give you a great foundation for your dancing.
